TLDR; surgery in 1998 as a 18 year old, 20 years of problems thereafter. I had surgery on a broken left tibia and fibula by Wolfson at York Central hospital in Ontario. Granted, with two broken leg bones this was perhaps a more complicated surgery than most, but nevertheless, I never expected it would take neary a year to recover to most forms of normalcy but also not to be robbed of ever getting back into hockey or baseball as I had for 10 years prior to my injury.
