The staff is phenomenal. So kind and respectful to families, and so caring to patients.
VITAS does not deliver what they promise. On top of that, they were fined $75 million dollars by the Department of Justice in October 2017. Hospice is for patients with 6 months or less of life. VITAS kept patients in hospice for over 2 years. They also gave bonuses to staff for bringing in patients who definitely did not qualify for hospice care and on top of that did not provide the care that was necessary. The fine from the DOJ has not deterred them in the least because they are still carrying on with "business as usual".... read more
This was once the Ella Kappes Nursing Home . The original owner whom built the home.
My father passed there last night. I was alone with him and as usual the staff was wonderfully supportive. They were never too busy for me. And they all gave me hugs before I left. Thank you very much. The atmosphere was homey and the vibe among visitors in the common area was wonderful. I could come at any time and bring my dog. First we got a hardline sales pitch, after that there was virtually no communication from anyone, ever, unless I went and flagged someone down. It was nothing like what was promised, and no it was not comfortable for the patient either. A very small awkward divided room, left virtually no room for anyone to even come in. The most communication I ever got was the phone call saying my sister had passed. However they did have an in house chaplain who did try to be of help.
I have been here twice to visit a friend. The 1st time there was a lovely, kind, caring, compassionate student nurse who showed such grace and love. Sadly, the 2nd time I went there were two workers (one assistant and one nurse I believe) who were very unfriendly, seemingly uncaring and I believe one of them blatantly lied to me. I would NOT recommend this place based on my second encounter. Left there with such a feeling of disappointment and dread for my friend and others in their care.
