I, too, bounced around therapists seeking help with PTSD. 6 week sessions hoping to get something. Enduring therapist after therapist saying I'm fine. It took a long hard fight to get into the choice program and I haven't looked back. My advice is don't even bother with VA mental health. Go choice and pick a therapist that fits you.
Went in for an intake at the advice of my PCP, and the doctor i met with appeared to be extremely high on meds and had very poor communication/listening skills. I ran out of patience/ tolerance, and asked if I could speak with someone else and no one else was available. The front desk showed little concern, and never followed up, which is very concerning because they did not know my mental state at the moment. Very frustrated with the quality of help thats available for veterans.
They have all the right literature and brochures to please congressmen, but on the ground I am not seeing any benefit. They are pill dispensers and operate under the philosophy that human being are like appliances that any mechanic could fix regardless of therapist-client fit, trust, and overall therapeutic interpersonal dynamic. I've bounced around the VA gears for over five years now and the outreach centers.
Worst ever
