Best of the 2 births I’ve had. I had to be induced unexpectedly 2 weeks before my due date and was a nervous wreck. All the nurses were so sweet and reassured everything would be ok. From start to finish, my labor and delivery was 13 hours. Didn’t need the epidural until the last 2 hours. Being surrounded by 6 women nurses while pushing was like being surrounded by fairies, it was so calm from start to finish. I only deduct one star because the buildings are really confusing for guests and the rooms could use renovating. Hig... read more

Absolutely amazing labor, delivery, and post op care. I was with the midwives for all prenatal care. The entire team of midwives and nurses are phenomenal. Good energy, teamwork, and work culture. You can tell everyone loves their job. They are all smiles in bringing a new life into this world. When baby was starting to get stressed during contractions, they were able to work with me through different positions to find ones that worked rather than jumping straight to a C section, which really makes this hospital stand out! I had a great experience with labor and delivery at VCU, and the midwives were amazing throughout the process. However, my postpartum stay was traumatic. I was placed in a shared room with another family, separated by a thin curtain, and forced to share an unsanitary bathroom. I was in pain, bleeding heavily, and vulnerable. The situation was so distressing that I had a panic attack, and when I requested a patient advocate, my concerns were not addressed. The baby in the other room cried constantly, making it impossible to r... read more

Trusting VCU with the birth of my daughter is my life's biggest regret. I am 18 months postpartum and I am still completely devastated over how I was mistreated, how my birth was mismanaged, how I was violated, disempowered, patronized, and the damage that was permanently and unnecessarily done to me and my baby’s bodies. VCU midwives failed me. Prior to going into labor, the midwives: -Double book every antenatal appointment so you wait up to an hour to be seen -Did not provide support once the malposition of my baby was id... read more

Do NOT recommend This hospital. In fact I would say that unless it’s an emergency, avoid it at all costs. I have given birth at 2 different hospitals in VA. My first was at the Fairfax Hospital, great care I had my fist c section there and was in and out of the surgery in less than 2 hours. My second was at Sentara in Williamsburg, again..great care, in and out of my second c section in less than 2 hours. Both hospitals the nurses were amazing at coming in right on time to give me medication to help with the pain, and were a... read more
