In the late 19th century, a local farmer named Albert August Vollmer requested a flag stop for the South Pacific Coast Railroad near Pollard Road. The railroad agreed and Vollmer named the stop “Vasona” after a favorite childhood pony. The 152-acre Vasona Lake County Park was developed around the Vasona reservoir, opening as a public space in the mid-20th century.
