The most wonderful experience in over 30 years I have had physical rehab. The therapists were so educated and hardworking and caring people ., some with decades of experience. The nurses and aides in the unit were the cream of the crop and so responsive! Even the maintenance and cleaning crews were so kind and encouraging! To top it off, all the excellent specialists that I needed from Stamford Hospital had full access to the Rehab unit to care for me!
The application process here is terrible. After weeks of trying to get a family member in here, they continued to drag their feet and say they need the patient to stay in the hospital until they assess if they can be accepted when the patient has been told he is ready to get to a rehab center. They are more concerned if we are prepared to take him home after he still has weeks of rehab to go. The lack of efficiency and communication is disappointing to say the least. My mother rehabbed for two weeks in Van Munching after a stroke. When we found out that she would be able to get into VMU after her hospitalization, we had no idea how lucky we were. The care was excellent. The therapists were all professional and did a good job of communicating the value of their exercises to my mom's specific health issues.
