Policies like the ones here are the reasons that veterans kill themselves. I thought that what you hear about in the news was that veterans couldn't link their healthcare to their service... But it's not that at all. It's literally that the VA does everything it can to prevent you for receiving the care that they're entitled to. The VA has improved but still is stuck in their old ways. Nobody wants to own a problem and each department is severly "siloed". The VA needs to take a lesson from MUSC in how it's employees are empowered to own a patient problem to rapidly find a resolution. You can do better VA!
We all have va horror stories or know of them. Well i have a positive story. The other day i was at a low mentally. I finally got the courage to go inside and ask for help. I walked in and asked the front desk if they have mental health care and if they take walk ins. She admitted that she wasn’t sure but had me sit next to her as she asked. I honestly have no complaints about the service I was provided by this VA clinic, but I have to admit that my health is pretty exceptional, so my need for care is pretty infrequent and never critical. The facility is very clean and well-kept, and the staff is always kind, courteous and professional.
No one ever answers, and the ghetto ladies working the phone are rude and unpleasant to work with. Cleanings are scheduled 8 months out due to limited staff. 2x now they have canceled my cleaning the week of, and the next available is always 5+ months out.
