I have one of the first Gear Ups and have put many miles on it. The bike needs an improved gear box. When you are on a rocky rocky trail that requires you to go slow you have to slip the clutch considerably to keep the rpm's up to go slow. And if you have a passenger, and gear its impossible. My suggestion would be to duplicate (which is what these bikes are, duplicates of BMW) the war time BMW R75 2 wheel drive sidecar bike that has a dual range gear box. I reckon these are awesome for New Zealand touring
Don’t be turned off by the whiners on the internet. These bikes rock. I’ve owned two - a 2010 and now a 2017 - nothing like them on the planet. Ride them and maintain them. Great fun.
Riding a Ural will definitely, will raise your "BADASS FACTOR" by 10. And it can get you to places you probably wouldn't, otherwise, get to.
