Union Station

4.7

About this business

Standing as a grand focal point for the west end of 17th Street, Union Station is one of lower downtown's most attractive pieces of architecture. Numerous restaurants and nightclubs occupy this historic building. You can sip martinis and relate with urban hipsters at A Bar, or get rowdy to the blues and chow down on Cajun cuisine. The original building, constructed in 1880, burned to the ground. In 1914, the current beau arts building took shape, complete with three storey windows and high ceilings.

If you're dropping someone off for Amtrak or the airport A-Line, good luck. The spots reserved for passenger unloading is usually occupied by Uber and Lyft drivers, waiting for their next pick-up somewhere downtown. Then taxis illegally take a few spots, leaving just one or two spots (if you're lucky). I've seen people double park or drive around two or three times before they can unload. Very travelling-passenger unfriendly (even though this is a train station).

Business response:

Hi Ron- thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We will address your concerns with our Plaza management team and ensure that they are closely monitoring how the passenger unloading zone is being utilized. We are first and foremost a transit hub and we take your concern very seriously.

I highly recommend stopping by Denver's Union Station when in the city. The architecture blends the old with the new and is reminiscent of when traveling by train was en vogue. Upscale coffee shops, restaurants, cocktail bars and a spiffy hotel are all there for an evening on the town.

Being a local and living in Denver for going on 25 years, I had heard numerous stories about the history of that building and how my grandparents and even my parents, when they were kids, traveled by train through Union Station at some point in time. They even remember when trains didn't back in to the platforms but just went straight through. That said, I was quite nervous when it was announced that major changes and expansions were on the way for Union Station and included in those plans were to demolish the building and b... read more
