UPMC is fortunate to have Umamaheswar Duvvuri, MD and Shaum Sunder Sridharan, MD. Top notch surgeons who saved my brother's life. He had larynx cancer and had a laryngectomy on 12/8/21 at Montefiore. I was so worried what his life would be like, he's talking and doing very well! My heartfelt thank you to these two surgeons!
I actually can't give a review of the treatment received because it took over a month to get an appointment. During that time, my loved one's tumor grew from the size of a pea to bigger than my thumb. It now goes from her ear to her mouth. The office staff was rude and had the audacity to call the local doctor who has been working with us and say we were rude. Their inability to put someone with an aggressive, fast growing, and invasive cancer as a priority is unforgivable.
My husband liked his otorhinolaryngologist in Philadelphia (stage 4 throat cancer), and had almost decided to take the trips to Philly (from Pittsburgh, where we recently moved) that were necessary for the followup visit schedule. His doc, however, recommended Dr. Duvvuri very highly so my husband decided to go to one appointment just to be certain. I would give this Doctor negative stars if this application would let me. Dr Duvvuri operated on my husband several times in 2012 due to his vocal cord cancer. He kept selling my husband a pipe dream that he could overcome his illness rather than respecting my husband's wishes for no heroic measures and wishes to go into hospice. It was difficult to get pain medication for my husband from this doctor and he never consulted pain management.
