I would recommend the relatively flat and quite comfortable ascent via the "Twin Peaks Boulevard" and, for example, taking the 48 line to the "Portola Drive & Woodside Avenue" stop.
Great place to see San Francisco from up high.
Be prepared to be blown away - if not by the views, then by the wind.
If you're visiting, this is the best way to get a view of the city. For those who bike, its a solid effort-to-view ratio
