Ruined – What was once one of the most unusual and beautiful bars in portland has now gone down "the tube". I hadn't been in nearly a year and the change is shocking. The place was once sleek and stylish. The place has been poorly remodeled. There is duct tape holding parts of the ceiling up as well as the vinyl bench seats together. They added some space but ruined the flow and the atmosphere reminds me more of the Sandy Hut than "futuristic concept bar". Good job hipsters!
amazing happy hour! – $2 wells, $2 vegan appetizers that are verging on meal-sized. super nice, super skilled, good looking bartenders and staff. great DJs, good art exhibitions. the tube is very smoky, yes, but if you sit near the door, it's not so bad. many other bars frequented by a similar crowd are WAY WORSE on the smoke front.
Disgusting haze of smoke; cookie cutters hipsters – I walked in and then walked right out. It would have been healthier to take a hit off of an exhaust pipe from a Volkswagon Beetle circa 1963. Well below average atmosphere. Ironically, a nonsmoker recommended this place to me.
this place is weird. i had a headache upon entry. drinks are not cheap!
Like a long tootsie roll. – I love the Tube! Cheap drinks, nice bartenders, good dj's, good looking people and a great vibe to it. I don't think I've ever been let down for a good time at this bar and I'm glad it's so hidden because it doesn't need too many more people going there.
better now – I think the editorial review is really outdated. You can get alot of vegan/vegetarian friend food and an eclectic mix of cocktails as well as old favourites. I havent found that the smoke factor is as bad as previous user reviews, maybe they improved the ventilation? I would definitely recommend this place for small get togethers and to people watch.
INTRIGUING SETTING – I came hear with a small group of fellow architecture students and was amazed at the design of the space. The Tube is different in it's design from most bars around the area. Everything from the frosted glass that turns transparent as the night begins to the television sets playing back re-mixed nights in the bar of the past, this bar is great for small groups to come and enjoy each others company and the overall experience of the setting. The service is great and I would highly recommend this bar to any... read more
A gem in the Portland night scene – This isn't about food. It's about atmosphere. I figure if I can get a drink at any bar, then the ambiance and service have to be special. The Tube is just that. I find myself returning there over and over, and it's usually to turn others on to such a unique environment. The Tube is indeed a gem in the Portland night scene, and would stand out in cities twice the size. It just goes to show that good design and good service go a long way.
Tubular – This place is, indeed, a tube, and a bit claustrophobic. Ventilation is bad--the place gets super smoky. It's all about drinking; I didn't see anyone eating, and it's really not an environment you want to eat in.
Tube has a 3.9 star rating with 182 reviews.
Tube is closed now. It will open at 9:00 a.m.
