My favorite endocrinologist! Excellent patient care, involves patient in making choices and decisions regarding care, takes time to ensure patients are well informed and the system in place ensures you can stay in contact when needed outside of your scheduled appointments. The staff is also the best.
Dr Barrera is great, totally rocks! My son was seven when diagnosed with brain cancer, he is now 38. Lost pituitary gland, needs all replacement hormones, very much a balancing act. Dr Barrera is constantly in touch with us concerning his meds, works very well with MD Anderson in Houston. So glad we found him over ten years ago.
Does not listen to patients nor family members with issues or concerns. Had a bad reaction to prescribe meds. Called his office for 2 months and when I got a call back, told me to go to the ER. Over prescribed insulin at a high dose to near fatal. Learned from other ER physicians how manage insulin intake and monitor blood sugars. Hard to receive feed back from him in person in office. He just types notes and no says 5 words. Laziest endocrinologist. He's just there for a paycheck. Transfering to new endocrinologist.
Very knowledgeable about diabetes. Lacking in interpersonal skills. Does not appreciate the challenges T1D face daily. No backup if he is not available.
