St. Louis has a reputation for fine Italian restaurants, and Marcella's epitomizes that tradition. Located in the south city neighborhood of "The Hill", this unpretentious trattoria serves wonderful food while maintaining a warm neighborhood atmosphere. Appetizers include a marvelous pizza with truffle oil and a four-cheese pizza. The innovative house salad is a delightful mix of greens topped with tomato, red onion, mozzarella and pine nuts with balsamic tomato vinaigrette.

Best Italian in St. Louis – Trattoria Marcella has quickly become my husband and my favorite restaurant. This is not any ordinary italian. This is old world style authentic italian, not the italian-american food you get on the hill. The menu has changed recently and it is even better than before. Try the new ziti, it is fabulous.
Gone down – This restaurant used to be the favorite for us but since expansion and menu change it is our feeling it no longer meets its reputation. In addition, the service during our last visit (which I admit was awhile ago now) was poor.
City Hype – Sometimes these reviews reflect a "city bias" and this one fits into that category. It's my job as a suburban snob to bring things into perspective. TM is a very good but not great restaurant. It's food is very innovative and the service is good, but can be a little too familiar. The menu is somewhat limited and perhaps a bit too "light" for more hearty eaters. This would be a great place to take a first date. The food is very tasty and well prepared, but it's not a top 10 nationally nor locally. My wife did enjo... read more
The intimacy and warmth of an Italian eatery combined with American culinary innovation. – In Short Trattoria Marcella recalls a small, family-run restaurant with a simple menu and a modest decor. A hip crowd of local glitterati mingles in the smartly appointed, high-decibel dining area. Nobby goat cheese gnocchi arrives dressed in an alfredo sauce gently tinged pink with tomato. The carpaccio di crostini is a first course of rare beef tenderloin sliced thin and layered with arugula, tart artichoke-onion relish and shaved As... read more
Mrs. – Outstanding pasta, appetizers, and desserts. Impeccable service. Will create an individual dih to accomodate your tastes.
Truly the BEST!!!! – We have gone several times and look forward to the next time! Fantastic service and food. Risotto with lobster and shrimp was lacking shrimp this time, but taste was excellent! Recommend stuffed atichoke and calamari over fried spinach to start off! Even Calamari haters will want more.
The Best in St. Louis – This dining experience is not to be missed. Often, if a table is not available we will dine at the bar and have never had anything but a glorioous experience. This is one of the few restraurants in St. Louis where I do not know, when I sit down, what I will order. It is always a difficult decision, but a joyful one.
A Must Visit – Trattoria Marcella is hands down the best "bang for the buck" for a wide range of Italian dishes. However, one should note that TM's dishes don't fall into the St. Louis "Spaghetti, Mostaccioli and other red sauce pasta dishes" Italian style that many STL restaurants use. Instead, TM uses a wide range of fresh ingredients to create a diverse and wide ranging choice of dishes, with no main entree costing more than 15 - 18 dollars (specials can be more). The wine list is large, but not so large as to be imposing... read more
restaurant – one of my favorite places to go, but it was better before they expanded
