St. Louis has a reputation for fine Italian restaurants, and Marcella's epitomizes that tradition. Located in the south city neighborhood of "The Hill", this unpretentious trattoria serves wonderful food while maintaining a warm neighborhood atmosphere. Appetizers include a marvelous pizza with truffle oil and a four-cheese pizza. The innovative house salad is a delightful mix of greens topped with tomato, red onion, mozzarella and pine nuts with balsamic tomato vinaigrette.

The intimacy and warmth of an Italian eatery combined with American culinary innovation. – In Short Trattoria Marcella recalls a small, family-run restaurant with a simple menu and a modest decor. A hip crowd of local glitterati mingles in the smartly appointed, high-decibel dining area. Nobby goat cheese gnocchi arrives dressed in an alfredo sauce gently tinged pink with tomato. The carpaccio di crostini is a first course of rare beef tenderloin sliced thin and layered with arugula, tart artichoke-onion relish and shaved As... read more
Mrs. – Outstanding pasta, appetizers, and desserts. Impeccable service. Will create an individual dih to accomodate your tastes.
Truly the BEST!!!! – We have gone several times and look forward to the next time! Fantastic service and food. Risotto with lobster and shrimp was lacking shrimp this time, but taste was excellent! Recommend stuffed atichoke and calamari over fried spinach to start off! Even Calamari haters will want more.
The Best in St. Louis – This dining experience is not to be missed. Often, if a table is not available we will dine at the bar and have never had anything but a glorioous experience. This is one of the few restraurants in St. Louis where I do not know, when I sit down, what I will order. It is always a difficult decision, but a joyful one.
A Must Visit – Trattoria Marcella is hands down the best "bang for the buck" for a wide range of Italian dishes. However, one should note that TM's dishes don't fall into the St. Louis "Spaghetti, Mostaccioli and other red sauce pasta dishes" Italian style that many STL restaurants use. Instead, TM uses a wide range of fresh ingredients to create a diverse and wide ranging choice of dishes, with no main entree costing more than 15 - 18 dollars (specials can be more). The wine list is large, but not so large as to be imposing... read more
restaurant – one of my favorite places to go, but it was better before they expanded
High rating well earned – We arrived at 5PM (opening time) on a Saturday without reservations and couldn't get a table. However, you can order at the bar, which we did. We ordered the fried spinach and calamari appetizer. A bed of fried spinach topped with fried calamari covered with shaved parmesan and asiago cheese. A lemon wedge on the side to drizzle on. Most excellent! The appetizer menu contained bruschetta, crostini, a cioppini-style dish, roasted mushrooms, a raw beef and arugula salad, and a couple of others. I orde... read more
Simply the best. – Trattoria Marcella is just about everything an Italian restaurant should be. It maintains to keep the feel of a humble neighborhood eatery. But from the moment you walk in, you can tell these people take the food and dining experiences they sell very seriously. The food is, quite simply, second to none. I had the lasagne and my wife had the famous lobster risotto and they were both bursting with multi-layered flavor. We finished with some creme brule for dessert which was very good. The wine list is very g... read more
St. Louis Secret – This is possibly the best Resturant in the St. Louis area. Difficult to get weekend reservations, suggest calling 3-4 weeks ahead, but is well worth it. During the summer the cold soups are outstanding.
Trattoria Marcella has a 4.7 star rating with 1,107 reviews.
Trattoria Marcella is closed now. It will open tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
