Won't return – The best thing about Town Hall is the decor and the gumbo. After driving for an hour to get there during the week, my friend, who had also driven an hour from another location, and I were requested to leave after dining for 1.5 hours on a Wednesday night. I had the salmon that was not cooked to my request & was tasteless. Service and food was below average - the request to leave sealed the deal on my decision to not return. Too many better great places in the city to dine.
Enjoyed some of dishes – I and mate had celebration dinner and it was good, two out of four dishes were great. The veal meatballs were dry and like hockey pucks, more like mothers meatloaf! The Smithfield ham and cheese toast great. The duck to die for, but the rabbit trio was ok. The rabbit ribs were cooked just right surprisingly because they are so tiny, but the other two parts of the rabbit were overcooked and dryed out. Wine list was interesting and shared white wine by the glass, but we took our own red wine from our c... read more
Top Notch – Any restaurant that offers free champagne for a minor delay in getting our table ready gets high marks from me. The food proved absolutely delicious-- halibut sashimi with caviar honestly melts in the mouth, and the thinly sliced ham with arugula salad made for a marvelous appetizer. The only ding I can think of is that the ladies room is outside (rather than inside) the restaurant-- and that is quite a sufferable ding for a thoroughly top notch restaurant with a welcoming warmth.
Great! – Ate there last night. Apatizers were awesome, entres were very good. Lots on the menu we wanted to try, but obvs can't try everything (1 more reason to go back again). Love the decor. The wine list is good, but not the best around. Over all Town hall is a good value - the food is great and not too expensive. It's the prefect "upscale casual" (whatever that means) kind of place. I would definately reccommend it!
A little disappointing – While the service was excellent, we didn't think the food was anything to write home about (good but not great). While very well presented and creative, we all thought the food, particularly the crab cakes, was very salty. Wine list is small, but the prices are pleasantly reasonable.
Everyone knows when to go and when not to go.... – Okay, so you're out with your friends clubbing. Always stop at Town Hall and sit at the big table so you can meet new people. (That's always fun for myself and my friends) Order the veal and let your mouth water over the taste. The Butterscotch and chocolate pot de creme is to die for late in the evening when you need that something sweet with coffee. Service has always been excellent and attentive, (of course if you are four hot chicks in your 20's why wouldn't it be??) but... read more
Great food and service – My husband and I took his mother here for a special occasion dinner, and she raved it was the best dinner she'd had in a long time. I loved the ambiance and the food was great. The barbecue shrimp and fondue appetizers are fabulous, and you won't be disappointed in any entree you order. Also, the cocktails are refreshing and fun. The desserts were also great but not my favorite part of the meal (my mother-in-law raved about the butterscotch pot de creme). We found parking in front of the restaurant a... read more
Exceptional Service and Eats – The food here is fantastic, but what takes Town Hall levels above the competition is Doug Washington...the guy at the front of the house. I don't know Doug personally, but every time I've dined at Town Hall I feel like I'm being doted on, almost indulgently. The food is terrific. My latest favorites: the fondu app. and the halibut. I always order the butterscotch/chocolate pot de creme for dessert. Love that stuff.
Horrendous service + okay food = do not eat here – We were very excited to eat here, given the buzz around this place. What we found was seriously appalling. As a San Franciscan and a regular diner at nice restaurants, I must say that this was the most horrible service I have ever received. Our waiter spilled an entire tray of drinks on myself and one of our dining companions. His response (and that of the maitre'd) was to ignore us for over 10 minutes, rather than apologize, give us napkins, comp our appetizers, or anything... read more
