TOI On Sunset

4.5

About this business

Toi on Sunset has been around on this part of the Strip for more than two decades. A popular spot for locals to visit before they hit the local bars and clubs, but need to fill up on some Lard Nar or Tom Kha soup. The music is always rock and the walls are covered with rock paraphernalia. The food is traditional Thai, with flavorful pad Thai noodles, stir-fry vegetables, spicy Thai noodles, spicy shrimp soup, fried rice and more. There are plenty of vegetarian choices and prices are low which make it even better.

Horrified – I am a member of an acting group in the area and we frequent this place, bring them a lot of business. The food is okay (I PREFER SUNSET THAI) but it was convenient since it is open very late. A fellow actor (who is also in the play we are opening in May) went in to get a Chai tea to go. Not only did they refuse to serve her, they kicked her out. This gentle woman has cerebral palsy (she has a slight speech impediment) and in NO WAY resembles a homeless crackie. A few of us returned to the restaurant to give them... read more

Late Night Thai Cravings – My friends and I love to stop at this place after a night out and I always love the food here! Good size portions to share, good thai food, and the servers are always so sweet to us. Parking can be hard, but late at night there's usually a meter open nearby. If you're in the mood for a quiet dinner though, skip it. It can get kinda loud.

Walk in to say you've seen it and move on..... – Ok, I was always told that TOI was THE place for Thai in hollywood, but after going there multiple times I realized that all that old novel bull$&i! on the walls just didn't add up and I don't even think they cleaned the place let alone the kitchen. I believe there method of preparing food goes as follows.... Vendor delivers food to TOI they cook as much as they can and disperse over the course of a few days, and then repeat the process. I say this b/c anytime I order the curr... read more

Consistently good thai food – Thai food is pretty competitive business in LA. I've have eaten at probably a couple dozen Thai places since I moved out here and Toi is definitely one of the best. Their food is consistently good. My girlfriend and I eat here every month or so and normally get the spicy fried rice and red curry. They are both really tasty and there is always enough left over to bring home the next day for lunch. The atmosphere is very unique (in a good way) and welcoming. The staff is friendly, they play good m... read more

Cute but they put MSG in things without warning – I ate there once, it is a cute restaurant with yummy food and good portions, interesting decor. I had a pad see ew and all seemed well. When we went to leave I got the most massive migraine ever, was throwing up all night and couldn't see. This only happens to me when I eat MSG. My boyfriend called and asked if they put MSG in the pad see ew and they said no, but it was pretty obvious to me since I hadnt eaten anything else but my usual for days. So watch out if you're sensit... read more

THE WORST, RUDEST STAFF EVER...MCDONALS HAS BETTER SERVICE – WORKED IN THE RESTAURANT BUSSINESS FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS,, I WORKED FROM SOMETHING AS CHEAP AS MCDONALDS, TO THE PALM ON DOWNTOWN, AND I'VE NEVER SEEN A STAFF SO DIRECTLY RUDE TOWARDS THE CUSTOMERS.I WORKED AT BOSSANOVA GRAVEYARD SHIFT AND I HAD TO DEAL WITH GETTO, DRUNK, RUDE AND CRAZY BUT I NEVER GAVE THEM THE ATTITUDE I RECEIVED IN THIS PLACE. I CAME IN TO JOIN MY FIRENDS AFTER CLOSING THE RESTAURANT I WORK AT around 2:30 AM, THE HOST saw me and SAID "OH ARE YOU M... read more

good food long wait – Great thai food. Very eccentric. Since the food is great there is a long wait to get a table wish it was bigger. The good thing is it is open till very late. I say go for it.

Great Thai! – Toi was a late night stop, chosen based on Frommer's positive reviews. The actual experience did not disappoint. We were lucky to find parking at a meter on the street; there aren't a whole lot of other options. Every inch of space is utilized for tables. New arrivals wait on the sidewalk outside until a table is available. (What do they do when it rains?) We were seated quickly at a tiny table along the front window. The atmosphere was an eclectic mix of rock, patrons' conversation, and the classic "Wizard of ... read more

Low-key Thai food eatery – I went there on a Thursday night. The place was pleasantly populated and not too overcrowded. The menu arrived at our table quickly and soon our food was served too. I had the Yum Tuna Salad, with onions, lettuce, cucumber in a spicy hot lime juice. My friend settled for a veggie plate with broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, snow peas, carrot and cabbage in a tofu stir fried sauce plus brown rice alongside. I can't tell that this was gourmet food, haute cuisine or that the service was exceptionally ... read more
