About this business

Chef David N. Barber may be used to the slick kitchens of Los Angeles and chic, city cuisine of Charlotte, N.C., but he's very much at home in the friendly neighborhood of Hillsdale. That's where Barber slips into his chef's hat each day and creates the great grill and comfort food enjoyed at the Three Square Grill. Chef David N. Home cooking in an unexpected location. – In Short A dated-looking shopping plaza in Hillsdale may not be the first place one looks for well-executed flavors and a well-priced wine list, but the daily changing menu delivers just that. Comfort food concentrates on local, organic ingredients (reputedly grown in the owners' garden, among other sources) and everything from the bread to desserts are baked in-house. Weekend brunch draws a crowd for its salmon hash, bagels and lox and shrimp and grits.

risk can pay rewards – This was the second time i had visited the grill, but it had been a least a year between my first visit. I don't remember much about the first time other than that food was good, but expensive. This time I was watching what some others were eating. Some had huge plate with plenty of food, others (like myself) had a huge plate, but not that much food. All of the entrees are over $10 and it looks like if you aren't careful you could get burned. The meatloaf was a little dry and salty and the roasted vegg... read more

Great food! Great Place! – I have loved this place from the first visit. It's cozy neighborhood family owned bistro hidden away in a strip mall in the hills over Portland. The place is nice inside and the mood is relaxed. The food is first rate - I would call it upscale, organic diner (if that makes any sense). The staff is friendly (it's hard to tell where the family ends and the hired staff begins) and fun. There has been jazz on all the weekends I've been there.

Mmmm!!! Shrimp Grits!!! – This is a great place for lunch and breakfast. They even have a jazz band that plays in the mornings. The food is great. Try the Shrimp Grits Cajun style. Nice place and very good prices. The service is awesome. - Razvan.

just like mom would cook – This has become a favorite place for a comfort meal, and considering the HUGE number of regulars, I guess we're not the only ones. Some of our dinner favorites are meatloaf (yes, meatloaf--but the best ever), shrimp-n-grits, turkey hash, and for dessert, the ginger cake with caramel sauce. Others of the desserts have disappointed (the strawberry shortcake comes to mind). The waitstaff can be a bit cold until they get to know you. A generally great place for a nice, homey meal.
