Three Dots and A Dash

4.1

About this business

Inspired by the Morse code for victory, Three Dots and a Dash was a cocktail drink invented by Don the Beachcomber, the founder of tiki bars, to commemorate the success of the Allied team during the World War II. Owner and mixologist, Paul Mcgee, named his brainchild after this popular drink. Three Dots and a Dash blends together a traditional tiki bar feel with modern elements. The menu features typical rum concoctions like Mai Tai, Halekulani, Pago Pago, Jet Pilot and the eponymous, Three Dots and a Dash. During its openin... read more

One of the most interesting speakeasy bar in Chicago. "Three dots and a dash" is Morse code for "V" standing for Victory. The place was hidden in an alley and need ID to get in. While you walked down the stairs, you will see skeleton decoration and start to feel the vibe. After entering the bar, feels like you step into a bar on the island during your beach vacation! Straw roof, bamboo walls, long floral print dress, colorful and unique mugs/cups...such an interesting tiki lounge underneath Chicago busy loop area. The drink... read more

Only went to the bar here, but it was a lot of fun and the drinks were delicious. Great staff, fun drinks and awesome atmosphere. I would definitely go back.

This place used to have amazing cocktails, but since Paul's departure, I feel the quality has gone down. I've gotten some watered down cocktails, some too sweet, just very inconsistent, which was not the case before. The atmosphere is very typical of River North; loud and crowded, which is not what I think when some tells me let's go to a tiki bar. Overall, a good option but I would not make it a point to go there.

No this is not a kitschy tiki bar playing margaritaville in the background. It's a much more modern take, and in spite of the fun glasses and umbrellas they serve up serious cocktails and STRONG drinks! Don't go hungry and be prepared to wait on a weekend. But worth it just for the work they put into each cocktail, the serving of alcohol infused fruit is a plus!

Three Dots and a Dash is a tropical paradise hidden in River North. The place is kind of small, so there's bound to be a line to get in. I ordered the bar's namesake drink when I went, and it was beautifully garnished and absolutely delicious. The drinks are a little overpriced, but you're paying for the experience - and it's a great one!!!

I knew the kind of drink situation I was getting into before going here (RUM! FRUIT! MY TEETH HURT NOW!), but I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the ambiance. It's pretty killer. From the lounge tiki bar atmosphere that is somehow classy, to the glasses/mugs that the drinks come in that pretty much everyone at our table wanted to steal. Sure it's pricey, and my second drink tasted like nail polish smells (you can figure out which one for yourself), but it's definitely someplace you should at least check out. I'm goi... read more

Three Dots and a Dash is great for what it is...a tiki bar. They have some food, but it's just appetizers. I would suggest coming here for a bachelorette party, or after work drinks. To me, it was more of a bar than a restaurant.
