My husband fell and fractured one of his hip bones. The emt's took him to KU ER because he has Parkinson's and his doctors and medical history are all there. I was not allowed to go with him (he is 73) to the ER as no visitor were allowed. I called the ER about 2 hours later and talked to the nurse on duty. She was very pleasant and allowed me to talk to my husband before he went to surgery. The Dr. also called me to discuss what the options were for my husband.
