Atmosphere and service were great. I also enjoyed my cocktail. But the main draw, the food, while fine, was not worth the cost. I ordered the fried chicken katsu sandwich. It looked great, but the bread overwhelmed the chicken, which meant that every bite was like 85% bread and 15% chicken; and the thickness of the bread made the sandwich too hefty to bite easily. The dish could be improved by replacing the bread with something smaller that better accommodates the chicken.
I expected more from this restaurant. The aesthetics and atmosphere were gorgeous. The food was overall average. It was bland & cold.
Ate here 10/6 with my wife. Had decent reviews. About 30% full. Menu was decent, wine list satisfactory, mainly NY. Service deplorable. Had to seek waitress out twice for tab and receipt. She was busy talking with coworkers. Food was unimaginative and tasteless for both of us. Poor service, poor food offerings. Will not return.
Our first visit, my wife and I were just hoping for a nice Bloody Mary,( well done), ordered some appetizers, we stop in whenever we are in the area
The tailor and the cook is a Utica institution at this point. Their food has declined in quality slightly since they moved locations. If I was to recommend any restaurant in the Utica area to somebody interested in high quality food, Taylor and the cook would be the first place I would recommend.
