Stopped in for dinner before a show at Variety Playhouse and could not have been more pleased. The food was delicious, perfectly seasoned. The shrimp and grits combined the smoky flavor of the sausage, the creaminess of the cheese grits, topped off by a sweet, slightly spicy red pepper of some kind. One of the most underrated spots to drink AND eat in all of Atlanta- tourists and OTP people go to The Vortex, locals go here! The beer list is probably about 12 pages long and they have a great spirit and cocktail selection, as well. The food is incredible- they have traditional bar food (cheese fries, wings), but they also have amazing specialty food, as well (curried sweet potato samosas in a cranberry reduction). I’ve always had a great experience at the Porter. Excellent beer list, and they do a great job of staying current on their taps as well. Most recently we had a large party reserved in their private beer cellar and everyone loved it. For the beer enthusiasts, it’s a blast walking around and looking at all of the cellared beers.
