The name Pig & Whistle has had a place in British history ever since daily rum rations were issued to all men aboard Royal Navy ships in 1655. As the story goes, it was the job of the junior midshipman to go below to draw the rum for the shop's company from the barrels - called "pigs". One day the junior officer arrived on deck drunk with the rum for the duty officer of the day. As a Brit was very excited to find a pub serving british dishes. The service was excellent, the food was great and so was the atmosphere. Will for sure be going back again, reminded me of jolly ole England (home)
For a local pub, it's very good. Not flash and glamor, but a good wholesome place that serves really good food, and lots of it, and delicious drinks and deserts. You also will pay a lot less than a typical tourist place, and get great friendly service. I' ve been there 4 times now, and had great service every time. It's a locals place to stop in for a quick bite, and an adult beverage.
Extremely rude staff. We went in late around 10:00 and ordered food for my friends birthday and had a beer each. About 5 or 10 minutes after the order was placed, the bartender tells us that it's cash only. We said we were sorry and unaware that it was cash only and we had just our cards. She flips out, storms in the kitchen and yells at the cooks to cancel the order. Then she yanks our beers away from us and asked me if I knew how to read because there was a sign on the door.
