Nestled in Historic Hallowell, old sidewalks, imitation gas lamp posts and a turn of the century brick skyline provide an ample setting for (the not so-secret, any more!) English-style brew pub, The Liberal Cup. As the name suggests, we believe in quantity as well as quality. Whether it's one of our standard 20oz pints or a heaping plate of Fish & Chips, we guarantee you won't leave our pub thirsty or hungry. If for some silly reason your friends don't drink beer, we also have a full wine and liquor selection. And because ev... read more

My husband and I love the Liberal Cup! Great food, drinks and we love the atmosphere. We usually go between 2 - 3pm and can be seated fairly quick. When you have a gem of a pub like this expect patronage! #worththewait. We find looking for a parking space is a little tricky though.
Business response:
Always wonderful to hear. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Cheers!
Truly, one of the best places to eat. Outstanding food.
If this place was ever closed/burnt down/ bought out I would be completely crushed. I wish I could eat here more frequently. They always have intriguing specials, but I almost always go for the bangers and mash. The only bad thing is it makes me not like other restaurants' versions of their main dishes. Also, I can't go without one of their beers. My favorite is the Alewife Ale, it makes my top 5 beers. They perfect their traditional entrées and innovate on their new menu items. I love my Drunk in Hallowell T-shirt. Thank yo... read more

And thank you for that lovely review! We appreciate it and thank you for your patronage. Cheers!
They changed the entry way was hard to find and the waiting room was cold . Could not reserve a table ahead of time . We were seated next to a table of i think 12 people . They had a gathering and the noise they made was unbelievable . Some woman had annoying high pitch laughs and honestly we could not hear ourselves speak. Service was efficient but not super friendly . Chowda was awful i had two spoonfuls and left the rest untouched . I thought this was Maine with great seAfood? Wings ok .fries not very hot . Always enjoy the food here! Have tried several dishes.
Great atmosphere, and the food was worth the price. Looks like a return spot for us.
Quint gem in Hallowell Maine -I recommend the beer cheese soup and the French onion soup -delicious and perfect for lunch on a cold wintery day!
The food and brew was excellent as usual, BUT... the service at the bar needs to be reviewed and worked on. If your one of the locals your taken care of but I had to ask for a knife to butter my bread then for butter for my bread and even after my empty plate was taken away and my glass was empty, I still had to ask for my check. I just don't understand this. I love the Liberal Cup but keep your customers happy and they just might come around more often.
