Important work in the cause of fighting the tide of encroaching light pollution that is rendering our ground-based telescopes useless and chipping away at our sense of wonder about the universe. Why would the next generation remember to look up, much less fund the space programs that are (in the long, long term) humanity's only hope of survival when all they can see is a few stars? If we're not shooting ourselves in the foot, then we are at least slowly crushing our own foot with an ever-larger stack of cinder blocks.
