Peek into the world of one of America's foremost novelists. – In Short Ernest Hemingway came to Key West in 1928, fresh from the acclaim of his novel, "The Sun Also Rises." Three years later he and his second wife, Pauline, purchased the house on Whitehead Street, built in 1851 of native coral rock. While contractors renovated the dilapidated structure, Hemingway set up shop in the old carriage house in back, where he wrote, among other books, "To Have and Have Not" and "For Whom the Bell Tolls."
Wonderful place – I had the pleasure of visiting the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum last summer and thoroughly enjoyed it. The 6 toed cats are amazing. The tour guides so many interesting stories and the home itself is beautiful. It is definitely a trip and experience I will never forget.
What a cat house! – If you love cats - this is the place for you! We visited this wonderful attraction in June 2001. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour, the wild Hemingway stories, the unusual decor and lovely furnishings. The cats were the best part though. At the time we visited, there were only 61 cats on the premises and many of them had 6 toes. They were beautiful and we are anxious to go back just to see them! This is a MUST SEE.
