About this business

Housed in a restored historic building, The Grit shows how good vegetarian fare can taste if done well. The interiors still retain the peeled walls and exposed bricks look, which adds to the charm of the place. The walls have been adorned with pretty paintings and there are comfortable chairs and banquettes where you can enjoy a healthy, tasty meal. The menu features plenty of gluten-free and vegan dishes. Try the Golden Tofu Wrap served with Sriracha mayo or the Black Bean Chili, a delicious mix of vegetables and black bean... read more

World Famous Vegetarian Eatery – This restaurant is one of the most famous Athens has to offer as vegetarian/vegan eaters flock from all over the globe to sample awesome meat-free concoctions. Tofu dishes such as the Golden Bowl put the Grit on the map, while Dal soup, falafel, and tabouleh keep it there. A diner atmosphere sets the energetic tone that makes the Grit a place to frequent again and again for awesome (and healthy) delights. Don't forget to stop by the dessert case on the way in for an optical reminder to eat yo... read more

Good food, long wait I really like the food at the Grit. However the service has never been good. Be planned to wait a long time to get your food. Once you get the food it is very tasty. However, I wouldn't say it is worth the wait.

Nothing beats The Grit's Tofu Cube Bowl – The Grit is superlative in so many ways! My favorites are the staples: Cup of Dal (curried split-pea) soup, Tofu Cube Bowl with cheese, and their Lemon Tahini dressing is perfection. And breakfast at The Grit? Treat yourself - it's absolutely delightful!

I have been going to the great for many years and the food and service is always exceptional. The Golden Bowl is a great staple but everything is exceptional.

Over hyped My mother and I visited The Grit in the spring of 2007. It was recommended to us by several people since my mother and I are both vegetarians. Both of us were sorely disappointed by our experience.

Great Choices for Vegetarians The grit offers a wide variety of quality vegetarian dishes and some of the best desserts in town, all for reasonable prices. The atmosphere is unique, with interesting lighting and a diverse crowd of customers. The Grit is a good place to grab lunch or to go for dinner, but expect to wait for seating on weekend nights.

Vegetarian Absolutely the best place in town for vegetarian fare. I have never had an item there that i didn't enjoy. All my pals that are not vegetarians love it too. The breakfast is fantastic as well.
