This smoky East Side bar is a beer haven and cigar bar all rolled into one, with over 100 bottled beers and more than 60 brews on tap. The Ginger Man is decorated with antiques, dark woods, brass fixtures and comfortable booths for drinking and eating. Pop and soul music play in the background. There are also good salads, sandwiches and stews, but most patrons come for the fine imported and domestic beers, ales and cigars, as well as the large selection of single-malt Scotch. The crowd is especially thick after work.

make it a weekly date – Despite how crowded the Ginger Man gets from Wednesday on, it is definately worth going to for drinks. If you get there before 515pm, you'll even be able to secure a seat.. And don't forget the weekly special beers!! By far one of the best taps around, and the Ginger Man also offers a convenient location, good music, friendly service and a spectacular view of the Empire State building if you get a window seat.
Make a Point to Drop in When in NY – The Ginger Man is always my first stop when I visit NY. Do not expect a flashy touristy spot, but rather, expect to walk into a local, home-town bar with rich wood paneling, smoked glass mirrors, and more Guinness signs than you can count. The number of available draft and bottle beers is incredible. If beer is not your thing, have some cognac, a cigar, or one of their incredible (not to mention creative) sandwiches. In the back, they have darts and a backroom perfect for card playing or ... read more
Love beer?! Get your butt down here! – Amazing tap selection- seeing the bar with all the handles behind it for the first time is amazing. Sure it's busy, but, given the draw to beer lovers, anyone thinking it shouldn't be is kidding themselves. And we're not talking about pounding Bud lites with your pals. Slow down, enjoy, and emerge a better, more worldly beer drinker. Your love handles will thank you.
This is a Ginger Man? – Having been to one other Ginger Man location this place is not what I expected. First it has more than beer which is just sad. The Ginger Man has built a reputation on serving good cold beers. The best thing about a Ginger Man is the variety of beers. It is a beer lovers hangout. It is sad to see the NYC location has not been true to that. It also is lacking the converted unique space of the one I love so much. This space is actually rather dull and lacking the charm of its brothern located in the con... read more
Beer heaven – This place has the most beers on tap, at 60, that I've ever seen. They even have Abita Purple Haze; the best beer ever.
Good Starter Place – This place is great to meet up with your friends to start your night out. Tons of beer selections and the atmosphere is fun.
I have found my church – It can get a little crowded and the crowd can be a little to class conscience but If you love beer then GO. This is a beer drinker's Cathedral.
Good Beer, Loads of Men – The Ginger Man is a great place to get an excellent selection of beer and men as well - The ratio must be two to one.
Great Beer, So-so food – The best 'beer bar' in midtown, if not the entire city. They will even have "competitive brews" (ie: Pyramid Apricot and Magic Hat #9 when both were rare) and a good bar staff. Downside is it gets VERY crowded, loud, and is impossible to find a seat. Service degrades as well...
