Okay but not worth the price I'm giving this place 3 stars because of the price. It is set up as a large 50's or 60's diner and the food is delicious, but for what you're getting you should not pay that much. It was good food, don't get me wrong, but I won't return because I didn't think it was worth the price.

SO Many Great Brunch Options This place has my favorite brunch in Boston. They have a huge menu, and everything I've tried, I've loved! They also have a great tea menu. The only downside is that there can be a long wait, but definitely wait it out! It's so worth it.

Different food options I've come here a couple times and I'm always amazed at the ingredients combined in each dish. They throw different things together and somehow create amazing dishes. I've never been disappointed. Not only that but the decor is always fun to check out!

Disgustng on every level How this place has not been closed down by the health dept, has got me baffled, as for the previous review, "antique cups and plate's"? are you kidding, dirty, disgusting, chipped and broken , old ,plastic cups and plate's out of a garage sale from hell. I have been there a number of times by default as Ive been forced to meet friends there. The staff are not friendly to anyone who does not look as though they have bathed in a year and has at least half their body dipped in tattoo ink.The food is alway... read more

Phenomenal food, funky atmosphere, waiters march to their own beat I think a couple of the reviews below are shills for the competition. I have been going to "The Toast" for 10 yrs or so. I have taken 50 to 60 guests there as well, ranging from college students to business associates to elderly parents. The results are always the same - repeat customers. A friend comes up from NY for the weekend, and he'll want to eat there 3 times. A business associate from Boston, every time he comes to town for lunch. My wife's friends fr... read more

friendly toast I admire the concept of what it is, but I feel there should be another themed restaurant around promoting a new avant guard. 1950s white suburban culture on meets Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is kinda cool, but how about 1950s beat culture with sparse (heroin chic) look is that still in style with images of Charlie Parker jumping off a train in the midwest looking for Junk. His drummer brings him back in cause aint no crap out there. One idea or something like that ya dig?

Not too bad I ate here one morning before work and had the best pumpkin pancake I've ever had. The waitstaff however, left much to be desired. They looked gruby and unwashed. And our waitresses attitude went with her crappy clothes. And we got there are 7:00 am because the sign said they opened at that time, but no one showed up to unlock the doors until 7:15 and then the grill had to heat up so it took forever to get our food. I would definetly go back for the food but hope to have better service.

The Friendly Toast The Friendly Toast has red walls covered in random paintings, antiques, and toys. The menu is unique and ppretty much anything can come vegetarian or vegan. The waitstaff is always really friendly, and the food is served on vintage plates with vintage cups. The best omelette in my opinion is the goat cheese, asparagus, and vegetarian bacon omelette, which comes with spicy hasbrowns, and your choice of six different toasts (hence the name).

Unbelievably filthy We used to enjoy this place years ago, but it has gone steadily downhill. The kitchen is filthy and unsanitary, and the health department is considering closing the place due to repeated serious health code violations. The Portsmouth Herald recently reported on this, you can google it if you want details. I know people who have gotten sick after eating here, so eat at your own risk.
