South Coast feed--spicy and straight from the bayou. – In Short Step into Cajun country--a hands-on, spicy, tangy, finger-lickin' kind of place. Here waiters cover the tables with butcher paper, place bibs around your neck and supply you with a quintessential wooden mallet. Their famous Cajun combo is dumped right smack on the table. Dig in and wash it down with one of 87 different beers. Substitute that shrimp for some crawfish and you've just ordered the crawfish combo.
Horrible Horrible Food – Some friends went with my husband and I to eat at the Boiling P. b/c my husband is Cajun and loves cajun food. This restaurant definitely didn't impress us. We actually stopped eattting and ate somewhere else. It was that bad. There wasn't enough spice, the crab was small and nasty, the red beans and rice were bland, and the boudin was small and had no spice at all. The vegetables...not even worth it. A country girl myself, could have cooked Cajun food better than this. I discourage people from eatti... read more
BEST CRAWFISH IN TOWN – I think they have the best crawfish in town. I love the atmosphere, I just LOVE this place. It is more expensive usually, so we don't get to come here often. Sometimes it's $9/pound for crawfish and razoos up north is around $5/pound! However, like I said, I LOVE THE CRAWFISH HERE!!!!! I also love the hometown/Austin feel this place has. It doesn't feel like those chain resturants.
please don't think this is real cajun food – Being a native of lafayette, louisiana (cajun heritage) and growing up on cajun cuisine--both home cooked and restaraunt, if there is any expert on what is good cajun food it is me. I worked in the near vicinity and was excited to learn there was a Cajun restaurant nearby, but I was very disappointed with my meal at the Boiling Pot. The food was not freshly prepared. It seemed it had been frozen. The crawfish were the size of rolly-pollies and it was bland. I could not identify ha... read more
Old fashioned crawfish boil - yum – The other reviewer notwithstanding, the Boiling Pot does a terrific job as long as you stick with what they do best - big old portions of boiled cajun seafood. I've eaten crawfish in New Orleans and while these are not quite as fresh, they season them well and who can resist a big pot of food dumped unceremoniously onto your table top? And, that IS how they do it in New Orleans. Keep it simple, stick with the concept, and don't expect high falutin at this place. It's a little pricey, but t... read more
The Boiling Pot is terrible – This place is horrific. The kind of restaurant that could only survive in a tourist location -- no one with taste buds would ever go twice. Hamfisted cooking of an easy dish - blue crabs. Ours came drenched in so much butter it literally pooled on the table and spilled off the sides. The staff had never heard of "old bay" seasoning, which is mindboggling. For $100 (!!) you would be better off at so many other place -- Red Lobster, or Applebees come to mind that's how bad it is. If you go (please... read more
