The project started with a reasonable estimate, but the final cost ended up being significantly higher than expected. While I understand that unexpected issues can come up during construction, there was very little transparency about why additional charges kept appearing. I often had to ask multiple times for clarification, and the explanations were not always clear. This made it hard to trust the budgeting process and left me feeling frustrated by the experience.
I hired this general contractor expecting professional coordination between different teams, but the entire project felt disorganized from the start. Subcontractors showed up at random times without proper scheduling, and several tasks had to be redone because they were completed in the wrong order. Communication about timelines and progress was inconsistent, which caused unnecessary stress and delays. Overall, the lack of planning made the renovation process much more difficult than it should have been.
Although the project was eventually completed, the quality of the workmanship in several areas did not meet the standard I was promised. Some finishes looked rushed, small details were overlooked, and a few corrections were needed shortly after completion. I expected more attention to detail from a general contractor managing a full renovation. It felt like the project was finished quickly rather than carefully.
We were in the market for a pretty big project - building of a studio backyard apartment. We ended up retaining Mike over at TX Bldg. who from the onset of the project was involved, present, and available up until completion. Mike made sure the job we requested was completed to our satisfaction and has gone above and beyond in helping with any issues that came up during and after the building process. We would recommend him for your construction needs big or small.
