This place actually deserves 0 stars for giving themselves a 40% tip! My husband and 3 1/2 year old son tried this place for the first time for breakfast on Sunday, February 9, 2014, 8:30am. Our bill came out to be $23.50. They included an automatic $4.25 tip when we gave them a $15 restaurant.com gift certificate. We signed an extra $1.00 tip. Worst service ever! Food not worth the crap service! – Arrived at Tecate well before they were to close so there was ample time for them to be able to give us great service as well as just plain old courtesy. When we arrived,I felt as if the waitstaff felt as if we(myself and my sister)were a burden to them. We ordered mixed drinks and proceeded to look at the menu. Wonderful margaritas and good food too – The frozen margs are excellent, don't give me a headache like the ones at Tony's. Their spinach enchiladas and veggie tostadas are very good too. The guacamole is Excellent and large portion. We pick this place over Tony's due to the clean looking tile floor (not like the carpet at Tony's), and the place is more quiet. I do wish the bar was livelier but then I also wish I were 20 yrs younger. Oh well. A great neighborhood place to unwind.
You want a great seafood soup ? – I disagree about the wow comment on their entrees. Apparently they never had the seafood soup. I don't know how this specialty of their has been missed. It is somewhat like a cioppino I have had . In a light tomatoe broth seasoned with cilantro, filled with onions, peppers, carrots, crab, fish and shrimp. Best Mexican Breakfast – Best Breakfast in Town. Great hospitality.
Cheap, Fast, Good – Tecate is a "typical" TexMex restaurant. The food is pretty cheap and plentiful. You won't be "Wowed" by the entrees, but I doubt you'd complain either. Service is fast and friendly. Atmosphere is quaint. Most times I think about hitting up Tony's I end up at Tecate. It won't put Tony's out of business, but I bet Tony's will never cause Tecate to close down either.
Best in town! – Great place. The food is excellent. I have tried most things on the menu and they are all good and very reasonably priced ... Waiters and waitresses are very friendly. Relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.
Quick and Tasty! – My wife and I are regulars at Tony's on Ella, but on the weekend, the crowds are usually out of the door....one Saturday we decided to try the Tecate because it is only up the road and we were happily rewarded...the place was full, but not crowded..the salsa was very spicy and homemade....the Margaritas were strong and tasty....the waiter was average and the entrees were tasty...overall, a good quick place for a burrito and a margarita!
