The extensive menu at Tanjore can be overwhelming, but the patient wait staff are happy to assist. For native Indians or diners bored with the typical curry dish, the breadth of choices is a delight. For some variety, try Bengali or Western Indian dishes. The entrees contain no beef or pork, but they're so good that you won't miss the meat.

With its extremely fresh and abundantly flavorful cuisine, Tanjore is Harvard Square?s best Indian restaurant. The breads, including the savory garlic naan, perfectly puffed poori, and peshwari naan stuffed with ground nuts and raisins, make your mouth sing. The piquant basmati rice, with cumin seeds and caramelized onion, is exquisite; and the tamarind, mango and mint chutney sauces are divine. But the dishes, layered with flavors that tantalize the taste buds, are even better. Favorites include delicious dosas filled with ... read more
Worst place, worst service!! – Worst place to go if you are looking for a good dinner experience...seriously..... all the dishes they make are rather pre cooked, i have no idea why people tend to like them as much as they do! Adding to that is the service which I personally do not think is the best! you get seated and your order is taken and you get your bill and thrown out! nothing that pleases me about their service. Enter the restaurant after 10 pm and people there would look at you like they want you to get the hell out ... read more
Don't waste your time here! – I've been to Tanjore for their lunch buffet and for occasional take out snacks. Their dining area is cold and often unpleasant and their food isn't anything special. They add 18% tip to parties of 6 or more, which is completely understandable under normal circumstances, but you're there for the lunch buffet with horrible service (they never brought us naan which is the only aspect of service they are supposed to do during the buffet) what is the 18% for? All their dishes taste the same. They use... read more
One of the Best in Cambridge – Been to most of the Indian restaurants around cambridge. i like tanjore and tamarind bay the best. the tikka masala is great here. the atmosphere is nice too. good service. no complaints.
Great food! – I think Tanjore is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Boston. The menu selection is great, as others have mentioned. It does get quite crowded here sometimes, but I think it's worth it for the excellent food.
Great Choices on the Menu ! – Impressive. A good regional twist on the menu, different offering dishes from South India which wasnt surprising. (Tanjore is a smallish city in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu synonymous for a style of painting). Variety on the menu is super. Mainstay dishes from South India and good ones from North India are both on the menu. The appetizers are also pretty good. The Samosa Chaat, Rasam Vada was the ones we tried and really enjoyed. I was delighted to find a dish like Chettinad Chicken ... read more
Great food and prices – While this restaurant does not try too hard on atmosphere, the food is great and a really good value. I really like the large menu and have enjoyed a wide variety of different entrees. But it can be crowded and noisy--the tables are close together, so if other people are talking loudly, it can interfere with your meal.
Tanjore is one of the reasons I moved to Boston – The food is absolutely fabulous, and they have a lot of non-mainstream dishes. I've been to dinner here and also to the weekday lunch buffet and was inspired by both. You can't go wrong, really.
Fans of Indian cuisine head to Harvard Square to sample from a lengthy menu of regional specialties. – In Short A warm, inviting interior and a knowledgeable waitstaff help make Tanjore one of Cambridge's most popular Indian restaurants. Typical of the menu's intricate curries is the Malabar masala (lamb sautéed with ginger and onions, then braised with Malabar Coast spices). The vindaloos (vinegar-marinated meat in a sweet-sour barbecue sauce) can be adjusted for those adverse to intense heat. Cooling, yogurt-based lassi dr... read more
