Used to be Good – Tampico used to be a great seafood place; unfortunately, my last visit confirmed opinion: the quality and service are gone, and the prices are too high. Much family feuding has left Tampico without their best players. There are many better run and cheaper seafood restaurants nearby and around Houston. My family and our friends will not return. They need a change in management pronto!!!
Deemed one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants in town, this hard-to-find eatery is well-worth the hunt. – In Short Seafood abounds at this split-level restaurant. Best Hidden Secret in Houston – Tampico's has got to be one of the best hidden secrets in Houston and one of the best places to go for seafood. Their Red Snapper "A la plancha" which is not on the menu is simply outstanding. The best thing to do is to pick your fish right of the ice counter and have it cooked with shrimp, crab legs, scallops, octupus, etc. Everyone I have taken there agrees, it's a unique dish. Try the chinese fried rice to go with it, you won't regret it!
THE BEST – From the Ceviche, to the Fried Shrimp, to the fried rice or french fries, you can't go wrong at Tampico. Excellent fresh seafood and mexican dishes. Two salsa's that are impossible to choose between. Great food, great staff.
FRESH is an understatement! – The absolute best in Mexican seafood that Houston has to offer... This is a totally out-of-the-way hole in the wall...not your best bet for Friday night dinner...but excellent for that weekend lunch with friends.... We had the whole Red Snapper crowned with TONS of shrimp, scallops and squid. Simply put, it was amazing. Get ready to wait for a bit, as it took them about 30 mins to put the meal together, but it was very much well worth the wait.
