Went to Sweeney' s for the first time to celebrate my man's birthday. Wanted to try someplace different and googled restaurants serving fried oysters. Out of th he list, we choose Sweeney' s. Great choice!! The variety of seafood is far better than any in the area. The atmosphere and ambiance make you feel welcome. The great service and awesome food make you want to come back. No more franchise seafood restaurants for us!! This place has them beat!!

I wish the old Sweeney's Seafood was still here. Living only a few blocks away it was one of the best seafood places in town. Seafood is far and away my favorite choice when dining out so recently I decided to try out the new Sweeney's in Centerville for the second time. The weather was bad and I didn't want to drive downtown Dayton to Jay's Restaurant. Big mistake I should have driven downtown to Jay's. If you want fried, tasteless dinners go to Sweeney's. If you want seafood go to Jay's.

Sweeney’s Seafood Walt Disney’s Finding Nemo isn’t the only place that clown fish find themselves in dangerous waters; Sweeney’s Seafood has an aquarium where their puffer fish keep Nemo on his toes every day. Speaking of fresh fish, back in 1994 original owner Ron Sweeney noticed that you couldn’t find any in the south Dayton area, so he opened Sweeney’s Seafood in downtown Centerville. Ever since then, guests have looked forward to bringing family and friends here. Whether you’re just looking for casual dining or are celeb... read more

A formerly excellent seafood restaurant gone downhill – The service was very slow. And then I was served the wrong meal. When I got my correct meal, my scallops were the smallest I had ever been served in a restaurant. I almost asked the waitress if they had come from a TV dinner. And they were tasteless. My grandson's crab legs were over-cooked and soggy. The crab shells were very soft. The clam chowder we could not eat. It was awful. The restaurant must have changed owners. The food quality is a far cry from what used to b... read more

Poor service and Seafood – Experience the first time was poor so we thought we would give it another chance. Still poor. Main Course was served while we were still eating our salad. It was served on a cold plate. The tomatoes were right out of a can and were at room temperature. Fried Oysters were cold and very greasy. Deep Fryer must be defective or warmed up from frozen. Comparing the fried oysters to other restaurants--- ."Jays" is far better and even "Treasure Island" has great fried oysters. So no more visits from us. T... read more

Awesome seafood! – Sweeney's is fantastic. My family and I have been going there for years. We've never had a bad experience. If you like fresh seafood and excellent service this is the place for you. It's family run and you always see the same faces. It's tucked away in downtown Centerville so it may be overlooked by some. However, every time we're there it's a full restaurant (but we've never waited more than 10 mins). The menu is filled with a great variety of seafood for the seafood pro and the occasional seafood fan. Th... read more

Proof food scene in Dayton is dead. – The seafood is mostly frozen then deep fried. The menu selection is lacking. What really blows my mind, though, is how the restaurant hasn't been remodeled since the 1970's. The dining room is decorated with dingy, old and tacky disco era crap... very, very unappetizing. At least the decor matches the food.

Exceptionaly Good Sea Food – OK, the parking is confusing but in that old part of town, it's expected. Service could be better. Kept looking for the guy in the pirate's hat. LOL But let me tell you their Crabcakes, I personally have never had any better. I love crabcakes and generaly sample at almost every reasturant that serves crabcakes. Carver's, J Alexanders, Stoney River Legandary Stake House. I've tried them all from Maine to Florida this little hole in the wall has the best bar nune.

Yummy! – I do not know what Mr. Merlot was think! I love Sweenys! They have the best seafood in the whole town. I mean SO much better than Red Lobster or Long Johns. Go here, or at least try it once. I recommend the Clam Cowder. It has a great taste, plus they put celery in it. Its a great version of a classic soup.
