In the year 1869 the Philadelphia Fountain Society was founded by Dr. Wilson Cary Swann for the purpose of providing drinking fountains and waterers for animals. These provided free water to the public at a time when access to potable water in the city was limited. Beautiful and well-maintained fountain.
Really disappointed there wasn't any water in this fountain. Couldn't find any information on parks site or social media to determine if there's a cleaning schedule, down for the season, or water is never in it.
