The crowd at Sushi Ota speak volumes about the quality of the fish and other Asian delicacies served here. Look for the Omakase Chef's Dinner Special, which changes daily but always provides good quality, quantity and value. In addition to the raw fish selections, you can also find sukiyaki, yakitori and other cooked entrees from the land of the rising sun. The service is pleasant and patient if you are a first-time sushi diner, always ready to make suggestions to assure a pleasant meal.

Not as good as other places Herald as one of the most authentic Sushi places in San Diego and one of the best, I only thought it was okay. We ordered a specialty crunchy roll and found it to be mediocre. The ingredients did not taste any more special than from another restaurant. Furthermore, the wait for Sushi Ota on a Friday/Sat night is incredible-- be sure to call ahead for reservations. The wait will be one hour if you do not! The person I had dinner with there thought that their salmon and tuna were delectable and very... read more
writing this review makes me want to eat sushi one of the best sushi places we know in the san diego area
Very good sushi, good prices Despite the location of the restaurant, the interior is very nice and you can't see outside. The sushi is very high quality but it's expensive, of course you get what you pay for.
I'm afraid it's gone downhill For years this was THE spot I loved to take out of town guests to. Even my friends from Manhattan (who were used to places like Nabu and Sushi Yasuda) were impressed . But the last 2 meals I had at Sushi Ota were NOT good. The freshness that had always been a hallmark was missing. I was so disappointed. I'll probably give it one more chance, but at this point I cannot recommend them.
wow, this place is good Although the looks of this place may decieve, this place is great. It is locked right beside a car dealership. By the looks of the place you wouldnt expect such good sushi. I like good sushi.. and this is good sushi. Their rainbow rolls are one of the best and the unagi is great. I have eaten here plenty of times, and it is always good. People say it is the best in San Diego. I dont know about that, but it is pretty dang good. People also interchange it with sushi itto (one in hillcrest) not so... thi... read more
I love the foods being served here I love the foods being served here. I'm a fan of Japanese cuisine and this place is definitely a must-visit for me on a regular basis. I highly recommend!
Sushi Ota is YUMMY!!! It looks like a hole in the wall (it's next door to a planned parenthood), but the sushi is amazingly fresh and tasty! Be sure to make reservations :) Whether at the bar or table, the food comes out fast. The people that work here are helpful and friendly. Yellowtail, Chu Toro, O Toro, Salmon sashimi, sweet shrimp, some rolls, fried rice, miso soup, all very delicious!! Be careful though, it's easy to spend a lot!!
sushi is expensive for what you get , but much better than most places that i have been in san diego
One of the best sushi spots I've ever been to. Fresh fresh sushi. Yellowtail is incredible. Yellowtail belly is delicious. And the O Tours is mouth watering.
