Grumptown. – Ugh, I don't even go to this one anymore... The coffee is SOOOO good, but in this era of job scarcity, it never ceases to amaze when customer service suffers so needlessly. I now frequent the one on Division, as the folks are much more amiable...
unhappy with your job? – went in recently...horrid service...the couple in front of me we're gifted a smile and great service, but the girl working the counter must have just reached her sweetness quota. I was lucky enough to get the stare glare sigh treatment...i held it together reminding myself of the joys of working in this industry. Maybe she was having a unsavory day....but seriously, knock it off! Just wanna get my jazz on without the gripe. Tasty coffee makes it almost worth it.
Best espresso ever to grace this earth – If the heavens were to open up and spew forth espresso, Hairbender would be it. This stuff is the nectar of the gods. The staff are "entertaining"...
Go for the coffee, not the people. – Although the coffee is awesome, the experience you'll get from the service may leave you with a confusingly bad taste in your mouth... "Hmm, good coffee, but I don't like the way I'm treated each time. Should I keep coming back?". If you have a thick skin, ignore them and focus on your cup o' joy instead. Don't expect to be coddled, they're way too busy. Thankfully, they finally installed a credit card machine to attract more business. Late in the day, you're more likely to grab a window ... read more
fire the french guy – I can't explain what it feels like to get verbally smacked in the face by a barista who is French and has no business being rude to Portlanders who invented Stumptown and he, just visiting, working as a waiter/barista, turned me off the place I had been going to for a year, please fire him or tell him to go and wash dishes. The coffee has always been good, the service often great, especially the girls, but the guys are mostly, 60% rude, condescending and "too cool" for life...
The best coffees in the world. – This, like any Stumptown cafe, is the place for some of the best coffee in the world. Service is what it is: a barista asking you what you want. If you haven't had enough coffee at 10 in the morning, you need to be sympathetic to them being brusque. The cafe opens at 6, they are not on your schedule, but they will help you keep it. Latte art is good, flavors are better. I prefer the division location because customers there seem to know how to stay out of other customers way, but the Belmont ... read more
yes , the coffe is good but the service makes the coffe taste horrible – What's the problem with this "so much attitude hipters waiter"? can they smile sometimes? or can they make eye contact sometimes? or Can the say more than ,uh?. They have the skill to make a horrible enviroment , that it's something that you can see if you go there.
The poor customer service will leave a bad taste in your mouth. – This place has excellent coffee. With that being said, I would rather drink sub par coffee rather than deal with the Stumptown staff. They are rude and unfriendly. For a while I put up with the poor customer service to get a good cup of coffee. Today I ordered a drink and I got a paper cup that was split at the seam. When I took the cup it broke and my drink spilled on another customer. The three Baristas watched the whole thing go down and their response was ... read more
Excellent coffee – Saw this place as I was driving by, and it had the right look to it. Went back for coffee and was impressed with the both the roast and the quality of the drink. It's a nice spot, they have good equipment and turn out a good drink.
