As a parent, handing your child’s health over to a surgeon is one of the hardest things to do, but traveling from Portland to Oakland and having Dr. Stephan Zmugg perform my daughter’s PAO surgery was the best decision we could have made. My 18-year-old daughter had been struggling with hip pain for years, and it had worsened to the point where it was impacting her daily life and delaying her plans for college. From our very first telephone appointment, Dr. Zmugg treated her with respect, kindness, and compassion. He explain... read more

Dr. Zmugg is the real deal. I had so much pain in my hips and Dr. Zmugg identified an impingement from bone spurs and a chunky varis neck that was severely ripping my labrum, so much that X-rays predicted I would need a cadaver tissue graft. Dr. Zmugg performed arthroscopic hip surgery to shave the bone to relieve the points of impingement and was miraculously able to carefully sew up my labrum without needing the graft. I’m 14 months out and my hip is stronger than it’s ever been. I am so so grateful to Dr. Zmugg, he’s a re... read more

Words cannot fully express how grateful we are to Dr. Zmugg for the incredible care he provided to our daughter during her PAO surgery. From the very first consultation, it was clear that Dr. Zmugg is not only an exceptionally skilled surgeon but also a compassionate and trustworthy doctor who genuinely cares about his patients. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Zmugg took the time to thoroughly explain every detail, answer all of our questions, and provide reassurance when we needed it most. His confidence, experience, and... read more

Dr. Zmugg gave me my life back! Two years ago I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hyper mobility type) which means my connective tissue is not strong. So when I was told i would need to get a arthroscopy of my right hip and a labral repair I needed to find a surgeon who was informed about my condition as any type of surgery poses a high risk for my body. Well, I am so happy I was lead to this man! Prior to surgery I couldn’t even walk without using a cane .. and I was only 27! I couldn’t walk around a simple farmers... read more

As a 17 year old, I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Stephan Zmugg. From my very first appointment, he was incredibly kind, patient, and thorough. I underwent a PAO and femoral osteotomy—no small thing—but Dr. Zmugg made the entire process feel far less overwhelming. He explained everything in a clear, reassuring way, never rushed through our conversations, and always made sure I fully understood what was ahead. Even when I asked the same questions more than once, he remained calm and attentive. What really stood out t... read more
