Dr. Zmugg is a highly credible and extremely skilled surgeon. What I appreciate most about working with Dr. Zmugg is that he will always give you his honest perspective on your situation. He doesn't pretend that he can predict the future or guarantee you a definite outcome; but he does everything in his power to assess your specific situation, lay out all of your options, and offer his recommendation. I came to Dr. Zmugg for a second opinion after being told by another hip preservation specialist that I needed a PAO for my i... read more

Dr. Zmugg repaired my hip impingement and torn labrum, and from the moment I woke up in post-op I was in less pain than I'd felt in years. Recovery is going very well - again credit to Dr. Zmugg's surgical skill - and I only wish I'd done it sooner. I've always had great care at Kaiser Oakland, but this experience has been extraordinary. I highly recommend Dr. Zmugg and his team!

Dr. Zmugg is fantastic. I was referred to him in late 2025 and was able to schedule my hip arthroscopy (treating combined-type FAI, labral tear) within the month. During pre-op, day of, and post-op appointments, Dr. Zmugg kindly answered all of my questions and provided a thorough overview of what I should expect at each stage. The surgery went well, and I have had no complications. Thanks to Dr. Zmugg, his team, and Kaiser PT, I am almost pain free 4 months post-op and have returned to running. I cannot recommend him enough... read more

Update as of April 2026 - I am a year and a half post op from my PAO & FDO and feeling incredible! I am able to run, ski, lift, hike, walk and do all daily activities without pain. Everything is healed perfectly, hardware still in place. I don't think this outcome would have been possible with out the support and care from Dr. Zmugg. He set me up for true success in recovery and life after surgery. I don’t have enough positive things to say about my time as a patient of Dr. Zmugg’s. I came to him after being told despite my ... read more
