Dr. Sponsel is a pretty amazing doctor. He talks to you to understand the symptoms and what he can do to help your situation. He is serious about his work and his patients. He treats you as if you are family. He is very educated but yet laidback. I love going into his office for our appointments, never know what music he will be listening to. Although wait times can be lengthy none of the patients seem to mind because they all know that Dr. Sponsel is a SPECIALIST. And, we all know that whatever time he needs to provide to his patients is exactly what they need is exactly what he will most certainly give them.
Dr. Sponsel performed a miracle operation for my son May 21, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas. He performed a trabeculotomy for both his eyes as his pressure read I. The 80/90s ranges. He also was able to restore the Corneas and his iris pigment came back. He has had two other surgeries since then but if it were not for Dr. Sponsel my son would not have his sight. Dr. Sponsel has guided me through a very serious journey of strongly impared vision problems. He has been not only my specialist, but my ROCK.
Long wait times. I once was there 6 hours before being seen. Unnecessary procedures. For being naive and trusting, I lost my vision.
Misdiagnosed my daughter with narrow angle glaucoma. He attempted to preform outpatient laser procedure. It failed, and he scheduled general anesthesia surgery for my 5 yr old daughter. I sought another opinion, and he had misdiagnosed her for possible surgery to perfectly healthy eyes. He then lied on the notes. I had to call their office because his notes said that my daughters ocular pressure was at a certain range during a pain episode at home. He was not at my home to check for ocular pressures. My experience with Dr.Sponsel was wonderful. My son is three months old and has had two cataract surgeries. We were referred to Doctor Sponsel by my sons pediatric Opthomologist because of a pressure issue that we were concerned was glaucoma. He took his time, listened & thoroughly explained what was going on with my kiddo. He was kind and confident in his response. I felt very heard as a mother. He took his time in conversation when discussing options and explaining treatment. Best experience!
A friend saw dr sponsel and he performed several procedures. She could see and function even drive before seeing the doctor now in a nursing home and blind.
