Good, but underwhelming – The food is top-notch here, and in the summer when the outside section located directly atop Cliff Walk and First Beach is open, the setting can be spectacular (if there's no seaweed!). The drawbacks are the inflated prices and second class service. This is the most expensive restaurant in Newport, but not the best dining experience overall. I appreciate it when waitstaff are unobtrusive, but the service here, which you'd expect would be impeccable, is simply put - unavailable. Despite the fact ther... read more

until they correct some points, not worth it – Changed my review Now I would have to say the restaurant is not worth itit is over pricedI was charged $11 for a beer (Manhattan doesnt even do that). The food on the porch was terrible. The pizza was tastelessagain $36 for 3 oysters and 2 shrimp. The service is average. Some members of the staff are good, others are bad. For the prices that are charged, one would expect a much better experience.

My wife and I celebrated our tenth anniversary here and were amazaed by the poor service. We can't blame the chef - the food was very good (super expensive for RI). However, for most of the night there was neither food nor drink on the table - imagine being parched with such a large wine cellar just below our feet! Adding insult to injury our letter and email to the management have been ignored. This place could have everything going for it - but such a Big Miss for such an expensive dinner is inexcusable.

What a dissapointment – This was easily the worst most overpriced brunch I have ever eaten. I ordered the Kobe hamburger ($ 25) the burger was good, but not worth the money. I could have closed my eyes and could not tell it was not one from my home grill. The burger came with Lays potate chips. My wife ordered the ceasar salad, it consisted of 3 leaves of lettuce with 1/2 chicken breast ($ 24) the dressing was bland at best. You cant pay me to go back. Very dissapointed.

Perfection – Spiced Pear was perfect complement to a perfect night that I had few months ago. I became a kind of a regular since then. It was a complete exprecience from course after course of complex and simple food and carefully choosen wine list to very effective and discreet service that made me feel like that I was alone in the dining room. Whithout a doubt Spiced Pear is perfection of Food & Service or something close to it.

Worth The Visit – I ate at the Spiced Pear. I find the $69 pre fix spectacular. Even with all the supps it is a value. Our meal with a bottle of wine was $250 for 5 courses each. For the quality and service, which are the best Ive ever seen, its a value. Presentation of this chef rivals New York and while service is not the best in the world it is right up there. I strongly reccomend this to anyone looking for the best food in the world and an amazing setting for a great value

A Rip Off – The food was very good from the presentation to the tase. The Prix Fix menus were interesting. The supplemental charges to the menu took something that I would do again and made it a total rip off. Dinner for two was over $400 wich is way too much for what we got. We're not going back.

The height of fine cuisine (and fine service) can be found at the historic Chanler hotel overlooking the Atlantic ocean. – The Scene The Gilded Age is very much alive at this elegant restaurant housed in the former Chanler mansion (1873). Now a boutique hotel, the ornate French-Empire style manor still impresses with high ceilings and crystal chandelier. The restaurant continues this sense of grandeur with an antique fireplace, a parquet floor and virtually every table commanding a view of the ocean. Even the gleaming custom... read more
