We were visiting Portland for a family wedding and found Southland Whiskey Kitchen the first night in town. Our waiter, Kevin was absolutely the best! ! Friendly, knowledgeable, and great to talk with. The food was exceptional as well as the whiskey drinks. We were able to visit the restaurant 3 times while we were there, being from South Carolina, BBQ is a staple in our diet, and this place didn't disappoint us at all. this place will be on the top five list when I move here. Great food, the whiskey honey butter is over the top, brisket melt in your mouth and perfectly flavored.
Two of us walked in at 10:00 PM on a Tuesday seeking food somewhere we've never been. The bartender welcomed us to sit where we like! We sat at an empty table for 15 minutes as a member of the wait staff passed us by several times, visiting every table but ours. Did we smell? Look shabby? Who knows. The Matador next door was more than happy to help us out instead. Same owners...so I guess they got our money regardless.
I am from the South & one of the things I miss is the food!! I discovered this place quite by accident & I'm so glad I did!!! I haven't had mint juleps this good since I left home & the food is amazing...seriously, if you want a great BBQ, this is your place...and the beignets are to die for!!!
Great fried chicken and you HAVE TO TRY THE NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN!! Delicious and spicy! Bartenders are friendly and I love the southern atmosphere. Rustic and old timey but still hip. This is such a great place and the happy hour menu is fantastic!
