J.R. Monroe, founder of South Haven, was granted a land patent from the U. S. government in1833 for 65 acres of land along Lake Michigan's shore. Soon after, he married Fanny Rawson at Schoolcraft, Michigan. The newlyweds traveled through the wilderness to South Haven by lumber wagon, where they planned to live in a log cabin that Monroe had previously built. The village which he had envisioned did not develop at this time, so the Monroes moved to Lawrence, Michigan. It was not until the 1850's that permanent pioneer familie... read more

I was quite disappointed in the public bathroom on Huron St location No soap No paper towels No hand blowers Good thing you had toilet paper or I would have really been upset When you have a parade in a resort area on weekend I would think you would prepare a little better
Well, I sure would like to know why there are so many extra charges for water. It is 100% ridiculous. Each month it’s over $100 of extra charges. Tax for this, that and more. Angry, yes I am.
South Haven needs to fix the lack of police and enforcement in Downtown of the Wheel Control Zones on sidewalks. I see 10 to 12 bicyclists everyday riding on the sidewalks in front of my business, endangering the safety of my guests and Employees. The lack of downtown safety measures worries me. Hopefully this review is seen by someone who can address and fix this issue.
Gotta love being fined for parking after already paying for parking. Won't be getting my business again.
I want to give a shout out to South Haven for utilizing native wild plants that attract butterflies, bees and birds. I was so excited to see milkweed, nepeta, yarrow and others planted in the landscaping in the downtown area. Thank you for helping nature!
Will the city be cleaning up all the dead fish and fowl along the public beaches and accesses and also send a communication out to private residents to clean up in front of their homes before the Holiday weekend?
