I ordered the beef koobideh pita and watched the guy making it while I waited. He kept reaching over the prep counter, touching different things, then going right back to handling the pita without changing his gloves. It wasn’t something I usually pay attention to, but it was obvious enough that it stuck with me. A couple bites in, I knew something wasn’t right. don’t usually complain about portion sizes, but this was ridiculous. I ordered what they called a “chicken shawarma plate.” When I opened the container, it looked like someone had accidentally forgotten to finish making it. There was a huge pile of rice, a little scoop of salad, and maybe seven or eight tiny pieces of chicken scattered across the top. I honestly thought they had forgotten half the meat. The hummus was rotten. Not “different.” Not “extra lemon.” Rotten. The second I peeled the lid back there was a sour smell that made everyone at the table stop talking. It almost smelled fermented. I took it to the counter, and the cashier actually dipped a spoon into it, tasted it (!), made a face, and quietly threw it away.
