Sono offers a contemporary sushi experience right in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Modern black and red interiors tinged with Japanese accents create a funky aesthetic that makes for the perfect night of sushi-fueled fun. Seasonal ingredients ensure that there is a constant change in the flavors in these innovative rolls. Other star dishes here include the Sono hot wings, assorted tempura, and yaki soba. And of course, no Japanese meal would be complete without some sake, of which there are several varieties at Sono. Go ahe... read more

My new favorite sushi restaurant – I just moved in to one of the new condos here in downtown from north raleigh and was excited to find that there is a sushi restaurant walking distance away. I've visited 3 times so far and I was very pleased with the service and the quality of their food. My wife and I ordered the yellow tail with jalapenos and the tuna tataki on our first visit and it's a regular order everytime we go. We then had several orders of sushi that the chefs recommended and couple of rolls. The sushi was delicio... read more
Good sushi restaurant with lots of variety – I moved here from cali few months ago and I am a sushi junky. I live and work in downtown so I dine here frequently. One of few sushi joints in town worth going to and I've tried most of them in the triangle. Not as good as some one the places in cal but definitely one of the top in this area. Their entrees are good too but their rolls and sashimi are the stars. The special rolls are unique and tasty but sometimes has too much sauce. The sashimi is excellent. They actually have se... read more
is this what Raleigh people enjoy? – We were recomended to go dine at Sono by few of NC locals, and was it a experience of my life. When we walked in place seems like semi up-scale sushi place to dine. Hostess knew what she was doing and we were expecting to have "good sushi" this NC friends were talking about. My wife and I ordered some rolls and sashimi waitress recomended. And guess what we got...we got large rolls like you see in supermarket or buffet. We diden't even try to bite into one then sashimi arrived and it got ... read more
Business response:
I visit online reviews to constantly check how our guests feel about us and to better our service. I feel that it is very important to learn from experience and listen to the customers. For every negative reviews I apologized and took the actions to correct the problems. But I know this user, gomer0215, is a employee at local restaurant. He came to our restaurant looking for a sushi chef position. After a quick interview and demonstration of his skills I decided very quickly he lacks the necessary skills and wasn't as good a... read more
Good stuff, i'd go back a few times – although it was slighty expensive, that's kind of what i was expecting for the location. all the food was great and fresh, and the sashimi sampler had much better stuff on it that i thought it would. definitely worth a visit for a classy night out, but i'm not sure why all these people are complaining about the valet parking when there are about a MILLION parking garages all around this area that are free if you leave after 7pm.
Service is Awful – The food is terribly over priced with service that is non-existent. Don't be surprised to be sitting for 45 minutes waiting on someone to take your money. The money you just wasted on B grade sushi.

My name is Michael and I am co-owner/operator of Sono. I like to apologize for the experience you had with us. I would like to make it up to you somehow and perhaps get a little more details on what had happened that evening. That way we can go over the issues and try to prevent them from happening again. We strive to get better each and everyday. I apologize that you had to experience such a bad service and food from us. I would like to invite you to give us another try. I will even prepare your food my self. Please call us... read more
Excellent Food, Incredible Atmosphere and Service – I don't often post reviews, but this restaurant definitely deserves one. The menu is excellent and very varied in its selection (you can check out a copy on their website). I took my dad to this restaurant after doing a good amount of research about sushi restaurants in the area... he is an incredibly picky eater (for those sushi lovers who are familiar with Tojo's... THAT is what my dad compares his sushi to). He was thoroughly impressed with everything we ordered. We had ... read more
Good food, but disappointing service. – I ate dinner at Sono last night. I enjoyed the food, but the service was disappointing. The waitress assigned to our table seemed in a rush even though, the restaurant was not that crowded. She would whisk by our table without giving us a chance to say our full order. We had to be quick or she would be gone. At one point one of the wine glasses fell on the table and the wait staff was just looking. No one rushed by to help clean it up. When the waitress did see what happened she took o... read more
The Best Sushi I've Ever Had – I love good sushi. I always say, if you have never had it before, go somewhere good first. I have been to Sono several times, and each time I have had their special rolls, I have not been disappointed. Prices may be on the higher end of sushi, but it's worth it, and if you go during lunch, you can get two special rolls for $15. The atmosphere is trendy and the service is pretty decent. I highly recommend the Crunchy Diablo Roll, I get it every time now. Their miso soup and salad with ginger dre... read more
The best overall Japanese restaurant in the triangle...period – There are so many Japanese restaurants popping up in the area but none that can compare to this place. This place has by far the most fresh fish around. I'm a little picky when it comes to sashimi in that I don't like frozen products. I don't mind frozen products used on my rolls but I hate it when I get it on my sashimi plate. I tried this place out because a friend of mine told me they have real Japanese snapper and bunch of other fresh fish. I had my doubts b... read more
