Before I dive into my not so great experience, I would like to accentuate the positive and give kudos to the front desk clerks for their professionalism and customer service. Facility and rooms are dirty. It smelled like a combination of mustiness/mildew/Mary J. I asked to change my room immediately after checking in due to the disgusting conditions of my initial room. 03/16/2026 I checked in at Sonesta Newark Friday, March 13, 2026 at around 10pm. The hotel room and the hotel itself were disgustingly dirty. I found trash under the mattress and packs of Ramen Noodles from, I’m assuming, a previous guest under the seat in the room. The mattress was stained with something reddish, and I’m hoping it’s wine. The seat in the room was stained also, and I did not sit on it all weekend. I reported the trash to the young lady who checked me in but she just shrugged. Brandon at the front desk was helpful and personable on the phone and in person. No issues at check in. Room was a bit small and dated, but hotel is under renovation and priced accordingly.
These people have the worst service imaginable. And don't even think of trying to cancel - they hang on to your money like thieves. Stay somewhere else.
