Get directionsWe signed a contract for the installation of solar panels with SolarUnion in March/April 2023. In July 2024, we received an email with a unilateral cancellation of our contract. We had to contact them to determine what happened. Per their admissions on phone and email, they failed to submit our permit application and so they also failed to secure the NEM 2.0 rate, which is more favorable than the NEM 3.0 rate. The technical team did a great job getting our inverter back online, following the Tigo CCA failure. I reported the failure approximately 2 months ago. Multiple messages and escalations were needed to get the team's assistance.
We were very pleased with the installation and are very much enjoying having a mini-solar plant on our roof. It's a big job to do all the design, the permits, the install, and the interconnection. Nice work all around Solar Union!
Update - I am still waiting for a transformer upgrade and we're at over a year and a half since the install, and PG&E is saying it won't be until April 2025, nearly 2 years since I first started this project. SolarUnion also came out after I had to figure out there is a way to potentially use the SolarEdge inverter to limit the amount of power going out to the grid (supposedly this is supposed to work). SolarUnion installed a 6 KWh system with battery backup in East Bay for us under NEM 3.0. The whole process took about 6 months. They took care of designing system, getting permits with city, working with PGE, and getting everything connected. The installers were excellent and also installed the EV charger and changed the house main panel to upgrade electrical service to 200 AMP.
