Baby back ribs, Canadian Premier League (CPL) on the TV, $1 cornbread, and an absolutely ginormous bar. What’s better than this? That’s right I’m talking about smokin J’s. Your one stop shop for BBQ extravagance in Morgantown WV. On top of all that delicious saucy meat, they also have a hotel. Think of it as one of their “signature sides”. I like to think that the restaurant has a hotel attached, not the other way around. Must visit if within 40 miles.
Have been evaluating local barbecue restaurants from Morgantown to Charleston. Smokin J was a pleasant surprise. Very nice restaurant. Smoker can be seen from the outside as soon as you pull in. The restaurant is attached to the Holiday Inn and my experience in traveling is that hotel food is ok but not great. Smokin J is an exception. Menu looks good. The location was recommended to me. I waited and waited to be seated. Then I gave up. Two different servers had acknowledged me but turned away, choosing to talk to customers that already had their food. It wasn't busy. I'm not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I'll try another time. Maybe not.
Loved this place! We sat outside and had a great time. The drinks were amazing and the food was delicious. Makayla was our server. She was very attentive and friendly! Will definitely be coming back when visiting Morgantown again.
