What a wonderful Dr. and great guy!! He was very thorough and compassionate. I'm glad that I chose him as my Hematologist. His phlebotomist, Mr. Brown, was equally all of the above mentioned. I'm always treated with the utmost respect and empathy when I visit any UPMC Dr. or hospital.
Dr. Roy Smith has kept me alive for over 6 years by administering Injectafer (iron) treatments in order to fight chronic anemia. A lot of patients here are being treated for cancer and other serious conditions, and they're all being cared for very well by the staff. While some patients react negatively when they are told the truth about their health conditions, Dr. Smith always combines compassion with a great sense of humor. I trust him to keep me informed about test results and needed treatments.
Please do not waste your time with this provider, else you want terrible bed side manners. I went in for my appointment (that wasn't even scheduled in their system and had to wait close to 3 hours) and left rushing to a bathroom to sob. I wanted a second opinion on a gene mutation I have and all he could focus on was my weight... as I was recently diagnosed with an ED and that information being in the UPMC portal, yet he still chose to ram it down my throat.
