I had a bad experience. Saw him for a fissure, but also mentioned other issues I was having, to which his response was "I don't know what would cause that," with a shrug. Turns out I was having pelvic floor prolapse (rectocele), which another colorectal surgeon at another practice easily diagnosed 6 months later. If Dr. Smith had investigated instead of shrugging and claiming fiber would cure all problems, I might have been able to get this treated with PT earlier, and maybe prevented it from going to a grade 2 prolapse. The worst! Could have cost me my life if I hadn't gone to the ER. Dr. Smith severed and tossed away three inches of my ureter during my operation. 25 lbs of acites fluid built up in my abdomen. Dr. Smith attributed my swollen belly to constipation. He never acknowledged any wrong doing but said "oh, that must have happened during the operation". Well, yeah it did! Had 5 hospitalizations following his botched surgery. I would avoid him like the plague.

Dr. Smith at Colon & Rectal Specialists was very calming & nice while he took time out on a very busy day to chat with me before my colonoscopy. Him and his staff were very courteous, and professional at all times. Even though I was a little anxious about my first colonoscopy, I felt that I was in good hands with Dr. Smith and his confident team of nurses and associates. The process went smoothly, and I had no unusual side effects or discomfort from the procedure.

as a result of a procedure I had complications which cause a second procedure. All of which could have been avoided if the doctor had listened to my concerns about a prior complication. AND I have yet to receive a phone call to check on my condition.

While never having issues in this area not only scary and embarrassing, the visit with Dr. Smith did not help at all. not welcoming /emphatic about my situation. I left with no understanding of my issue also after a follow up still having issues. Reception sign in at this particular office likes to leave a clip board out with patients names to see who visited today, I don’t need people knowing I’ve seen a rectal doc today! I asked the receptionist about that and replied “that’s how it is here.”

Dr. Crawford Smith was my doctor for my hemorrhoidectomy & the overall experience was EXCELLENT! From the initial visit for my problem through today's post surgical exam, Dr. Smith was very careful to listen to my concerns & then provide me with the information I needed to understand all that was involved with my surgical procedure. Great doctor and great practice!

Great Dr., Great person... It's very simple; he saved my life. I'm from South America and was recommended to Dr. Smith for my colon cancer surgery at the St. Mary hospital in Richmond.
