I have been renting from Shore Management for 17 years since 2009. They have always have been fair and good to me. In 2021 when the owner of my rental put the property up for sale i was in such a tough situation with Covid. There was no rentals. If you're searching for a rental, I strongly recommend avoiding this company. I rented a small 2 bedroom property in Mission Beach for 8 years, 4 with the previous management company (Bill Luther, who were fantastic) and the following 4 with Shore, and the experiences could not have been more different. With Shore, we consistently had issues. One of our bathrooms in a 2 bed 2 bath was leaking due to the upstairs unit. Shore failed to resolve this issue for a month but still charged us full rent even though we essentially had a 2 x 1. They withheld the credit even though they said they were "working with the owners and the HOA" and eventually ghosted us. We decided to move out after 6 months and our $2850 deposit had $1000 taken out for "repairs". Does any of this make sense? This company is a scam.
There are more ethical places in San Diego that will care about protecting you and making sure that any errors are acknowledged and addressed. They will send a violation notice to one tenant and not to another tenant with the same violation (photo proof was documented of their violation). All I will say is make sure you have documented and written records of all communication with Shore Management.
If you’re a property owner looking to expose yourself to legal risk, Shore Management might be the company for you. As a tenant, I’ve experienced firsthand what can only be described as negligence and unprofessionalism. They attempt to charge fees that appear to be unlawful under California tenant protection laws, and there’s absolutely no sense of urgency when it comes to critical habitability issues—like being without hot water.
